Germany

Germany is known as one of the financial hot-spots in Europe and home of different well known institutions like the European Central Bank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In addition, many large financial corporations have their European headquarters in Germany.

During recent years the financial industry has been impacted by consolidation, overwhelming regulation, and the urgent need for digitalization. As a result the Fintech industry in Germany has emerged very quickly, becoming home to more than 800 Fintechs and hence one of the Fintech Hot Spots in Europe. The Fintech sector is attracting a large volume of venture capital and private equity investments (e.g. EUR 1,3 billion in 2019). Besides the typical VC investments, recently many traditional banks, asset managers and insurance companies have invested in fintechs as well. This is a sign of the expected digitalization revolution happening from within the big finanical institutions.

The fintech ecosystems in Germany range across Neobanking, InsurTech, WealthTech, Lending, Payments, RegTech, Blockchain and Aggregators. Fintechs typically either share the market with well-established B2C players, cooperate as a B2B partner or introduce new solutions to the market.

The ecosystem is very vibrant with a lot of hubs, meet ups, events and support by accelerators and incubators.
